The aim of this report is to present the situation of asylum and migration policies in Italy in a simple manner so that it could be understood by lectors not specialized in the migration issues as well as by strangers. We wanted to give an answer to requirements of EMN programme which tends to divulge, in the EU area, the knowledge about different national contexts.
The methodological background is both socio-statistical and juridical. We tried to analyze the dispositions contained in the immigration normative in force and to evaluate, by examining the data, the way of its realization.
The topics treated in this report are presented in a synthetic manner. Our intention was not to enter in the immigration political debate, the subject notoriously controversial. We tended to illustrate the situation, taking into account some comments, emerged in the field of researchers and institutions, trying to reach the minimal common denominator.
